Susan Johnson

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Susan Johnson made her Broadway debut as Meg Brockie in the 1950 revival of Lerner and Loewe’s Brigadoon. In 1956, she originated the role of Cleo in Frank Loesser’s musical comedy, The Most Happy Fella. She won a Theatre World Award for her performance.

In 1958, Susan Johnson starred opposite Tony Randall in the musical, Oh Captain!, by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, and later that year played Glenda Swanson in the short-lived musical, Whoop Up, by Moose Charlap and Norman Gimbel.

She made her last Broadway appearance as Kathy Carey in Johnny Burke’s musical comedy, Donnybrook!, in 1961. Along with her Theatre World Award, Johnson was nominated for a Tony® as Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 1958 for her performance in Oh Captain!
