  • Susan Johnson (for Whoop-Up and Donnybrook), among others not listed because the OBCs were released on labels other than Sony, RCA and Arista. Understandable, since Mr. Filichia's column appears on the Masterworks Broadway site.

  • What a treat to have A Thurber Carnival available again. James Thurber was one of the authors I used to teach to ninth-graders, back in the days long before Language Arts replaced grammar and literature in the curriculum. The grooves of my LP got worn out because of the many times I played "The Night the Bed Fell," "The Little Girl and the Wolf," and "Requiem for a Dog," which, along with "The Unicorn in the Garden" remain favorites to this day. I'd venture to say that few of today's high school students have heard of James Thurber. Pity.

  • Was not aware of Engel's recording of BITTER SWEET. I, for one, would welcome its digital release, as well as his version of THE DESERT SONG with Nelson Eddy, Doretta Morrow, David Atkinson, Wesley Dalton, Lee Cass & Wilton Clary.
