Steve Kazee

Actor, singer, and guitarist Steve Kazee (b. Ashland, KY, 30 October 1975) plays Guy, the lead role in Once, the new musical that opened on Broadway March 18, 2012.

A graduate of Morehead State University and a recipient of the degree of Master of Fine Arts in Acting from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2005, Kazee began his Broadway career as an understudy in the revival of Edward Albee’s Seascape. The following year he appeared at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, in a 2006 revival of The Subject Was Roses, for which he was nominated for Best Actor in a Play by the Helen Hayes Awards. Back on Broadway he was a replacement in four roles in Spamalot: Sir Lancelot, the French Taunter, the Knight of Ni, and Tim the Enchanter.

In 2007 Kazee starred as Starbuck opposite Audra McDonald in the 94 performances of the Roundabout’s 110 in the Shade, and the next year appeared in a non-musical play, To Be or Not To Be, at the Manhattan Theatre Club. In 2009 he played the Pirate King in Pirates, or, Gilbert and Sullivan Plunder’d, an updated version of The Pirates of Penzance with the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston.

From January to April 2011, Steve Kazee starred in his first regular role on a television series, as Nick Garrett on CMT’s Working Class. He had previously appeared in several other series: 100 Questions (NBC), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (CBS 2009), NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service (CBS 2008), Numb3rs (CBS 2007), Medium (NBC 2007), Conviction (NBC 2006), and As the World Turns.

He has also appeared in As You Like It off Broadway with the New York Shakespeare Festival.
